Well, it's been long enough since I've written a review, so I thought it was about time to chime back in.

There are so many good music venues here in Manhattan that it can actually be really difficult to parse through all of your options and find the right show you want to catch on any given night. Personally, I'm a big fan of the smaller venues where the music can be a little bit more intimate. Crash Mansion, on the corner of Bowery and Spring Street, is a great example of this kind of joint. Crash Mansion is actually divided into two levels. Downstairs is a bar/lounge area with a stage for bands to play. Upstairs is a dance floor with a DJ, just in case you happen to meet some dreamy rock and roll girl that you want to get all kinds of freaky with. There are nice, very comfy couches everywhere, surrounded with some very sexy mood lighting. There are plenty of conveniently positioned corners that seem to be intentionally designed for making out and other forms of "I just can't wait until we get home" styles of PDA. (Not that you'd ever be into that, my puritanistic readers, but the option does seem to be available.)

While I was there, I caught The Morning Code, a fairly new local band that plays a style of layered and subtly detailed modern rock music that reminds me of what I was listening to back in the late 90's. I picked up some influences of Coldplay, Third Eye Blind, and maybe even some Foo Fighters in their set. However, to their credit, they pulled off their sound without coming across as outdated or like a knock-off band. Singer Ashwin Alexander's voice was very good and on point, but, I really wish that there had been a little bit more energy from them on stage. Since they're basically brand new, I suppose I will let them get away with it this time. They sound great live, but if they can boost the rest of their stage presence, I would guess that we might be hearing more from these gentlemen in the future.

My final opinion is that if this is your style of music, then you will almost definitely like these guys. They have some very high quality songs for you to freely enjoy uploaded to their website which you ought to check out. If this isn't your style of music, or you are looking for something a little bit more edgy, then this might not be the band for you. But, hey, check them out anyway. The next five minutes of your life were destined to support local music. Go. Now.
